RADIOGRAPHY

BRIEF INFORMATION ON THE RADIOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT AT NNCHS OFFA

INTRODUCTION

Medical x-ray is an imaging technique using x-rays to view the internal form of an object. To create the image, a beam of x-rays, a form of electromagnetic radiation, are produced by an x-ray generator and are projected toward the object. The x-rays that pass through the object are captured behind the object by a detector (either photographic film or a digital detector).

The purpose of this course is to convey a working knowledge of radiological physics anatomy and physiology and other related courses, and to provide a base of knowledge from which practicing medical x-ray students can make informed decisions about technical factors, diagnostic image quality, and radiation management for both patients and personnel.

A medical x-ray technician can work in both public and private healthcare and can be physically located in any setting where appropriate diagnostic equipment is located, most frequently in hospitals. Their practice varies from country to country and can even vary between hospitals in the same country.
